In the cannabis community, growing feminized seeds is becoming a trend. Many marijuana cultivators are shifting in growing feminized seeds instead of regular seeds. Feminized seeds are bred to disregard or eliminate male chromosomes. With feminized seeds, you are developing female plants. Cannabis cultivators prefer female plants as they produce smokable buds, and they have significantly active components such as THC and CBD.

The biggest advantage of growing feminized seeds is that you will no longer have to worry about male plants or male chromosomes. You are also producing your feminized seeds, so you don’t need to go to a cannabis store to buy feminized seeds. Feminized seeds can bring about large yields; thus, you will make a bigger profit if you market your products. Female cannabis plants attract more buyers as they contain more THC and CBD compared to male plants. They have great taste and aroma and amazing effects that appeal to most cannabis consumers.

So you have decided to try and grow feminized seeds rather than regular seeds. Keep in mind that they are not the same. The growing process is entirely different.

marijuana seed banks

There are some key exceptions to the legality of cannabis seeds in the United States. Specifically, you can legally buy or own seeds to use as bait for fish or birdseed. The caveat here is that the seeds that fit this description generally tend to be commercial hemp seeds with fairly low percentages of THC. In other words, you can’t use the seeds to grow plants that will give you the high associated with cannabis.

Make sure you are certainly buying seeds from a reputable legitimate seed bank. This will help ease any fears you may have and will not only make the purchasing system less stressful but will also make it completely enjoyable.

When ordering, they will cover your marijuana seeds inside things like pens, T-shirts, toys, etc. If you are an order from the United States, it will take between 15 and 30 days for the seeds to reach you. You will need to pay $ 15 for delivery. If the order does not reach you, they will happily send someone else. One of the latest marijuana varieties they promote is Somango, White Widow, Sticky Zkittle Glue, Gorilla Glue, and Purple haze.

how long for germination

Timescales can vary, as it all depends on how ideal your germination environment is (see the golden rules above). Even the worst grower could make a seed germinate, but it may take a few weeks and, of course, increases the risk of a weaker plant.

Regardless of where you get your seeds from, it is best to give them a slight (and delicate) inspection before planting. Most of the time, all seeds will germinate; however, poor-quality seeds will produce a weaker plant. Unfortunately, that is something you will not find out until well into the vegetative and flowering stages.

WHAT IS AN EXPECTED GERMINATION TIME?

Planting directly into your growing medium prevents having to move seeds when they are at their most fragile. That first root tip is covered with microscopic filaments that are easily damaged. Given that both a cup full of water and moist paper towels are more prone to temperature fluctuations from their environment, planting in soil is a much safer option.

The dome of the plastic container will create your seeds’ own mini tropical climate. If you then place all the components in a temperature-controlled cupboard, you will have created a self-perpetuating supply of moisture—no need to touch the seeds again until they are ready to be transferred to your final growing medium as a young seedling. Using the stone wool block method, your seeds should germinate in one to two days.

Place one sheet of damp kitchen towel on a flat surface. Space your seeds a few centimetres apart before placing the second piece of kitchen towel over the top. You need to ensure both pieces are damp, not wet. Once again, when the white root tips reach 2–3mm, move the seeds (carefully) to soil pots. Use the same guidance found above for planting techniques.

If you’re one of those people that have to have control over everything you might find yourself wondering how long cannabis seeds germinate. The long and short of it is that it usually takes 24 to 48 hours for the cannabis seeds to germinate. If they are placed somewhere moist, warm and dark, like a cupboard or in a propagator. These are ideal places for the Cannabis seeds to germinate and they will crack out of their protective shells.

After another two days, they should have a pair of leaves then continue growing for another two weeks until they begin the vegetation period. If you are concerned that the seed cover is still on the leaf or concerned about how long the cannabis seed germination will still take, just remember the more warmth and moisture (not dampness) will accelerate the process for the Cannabis seeds to germinate and within 24 to 48 hours it should be completely out of its shell.

So now you know how long cannabis seeds germinate, what will happen after?

Take great care handling seed and seedling. Most flower and vegetable seeds are simply planted directly in the soil, but because of the value of cannabis seeds, germinating seeds prior to planting is encouraged. Growers can achieve a much higher survival rate by germinating in a non-soil medium and then transferring the seed to soil once the tap root has emerged from the seed.

When the root grows to a few millimeters in length, the seed is ready to be transferred to soil. Always take great care not to damage the tap root when handling. The best soil to use for a sprouting baby ganja plant is a “seed starter” or “seedling” mix. These are light neutral blends with very little fertilizer. Heavily fertilized soils will kill seedlings quickly, and cannabis seedlings prefer loose, aerated soil that their roots can easily penetrate. A bag of good starter soil is easily identifiable: When you pick it up, it should feel light and fluffy. Soils that are heavy and compact are not good for seedlings.

Under the right conditions, seeds usually open in one to five days, so check them daily. Do not allow the towels to dry, and add water as needed to maintain moisture. Some seeds can take as long as 10 days to germinate, but if seeds have not opened within 10 days, they are not viable.

is it bad to smoke marijuana seeds

Marijuana seeds contain none of the psychoactive properties of cannabis, so if getting high is your main objective, ‘option B’ may have to be deployed. Not only are marijuana seeds devoid of THC, but smoking them along with the rest of your cannabis material will create a less than ideal flavour and aroma, and may cause a bit of a scare, as seeds tend to pop and crackle suddenly when exposed to extreme heat.

When busting your bud up, take a moment to pick them out, and all should be well. That said, there’s no need to hit the panic button if the odd one sneaks past your initial scan and gets ingested.

The overall consensus is that smoking marijuana seeds are not harmful to your health. If you want to know if you “can” smoke marijuana seeds, then the answer is yes, you can, but there is little to nothing to be gained from it.

When you purchase your weed from a qualified vendor you’ll have the opportunity to smell it, feel it and to walk away knowing that you didn’t get a seedy deal. All of this will make your monetary investment well worth every dollar, as you will achieve the quantity and quality you are looking for.

If you’re feeling ambitious you can take the seeds out of your pot and try to grow from them. Here are a couple tips for determining whether or not to grow with the seeds you find:

Before we get into the nitty gritty, let’s cover some basics. Seeds are what you get after pollination occurs. Cannabis flower (buds) are produced from the female plant. If you find seeds in your bud, that means the female cannabis plant came into contact with some pollen from the male plant, which results in your plant getting fertilized and producing seeds.

Before You Buy

Having some seeds in the mix doesn’t mean your weed is bad. However, if your buds have a lot of seeds in them it might not be as potent as it could be. The potency can be significantly reduced as the plant’s energy is working towards reproduction and producing seeds instead of just the flower, cannabinoids (CBD, THC), trichome and terpene goodness.

The best way to avoid seedy weed is to grow your own. If that isn’t possible, purchase from a qualified vendor and not just your friend’s brother down the street. If you’re purchasing from a reputable establishment online or offline you will be able to verify the quality beforehand. You can ask questions to figure out how well the plant was treated and you can avoid otherwise low quality weed.

Before you buy, you need to understand that genetics are a very important factor in your overall health, but you can change it based on your lifestyle habits. The effort that the grower puts in after the harvest plays an important role in the overall well-being of the weed. You want the weed that was properly cared for, trimmed, and processed otherwise it won’t get you the high you want.

If you are growing cannabis and are here to figure out if you have a male, female or a potential hermaphrodite: we want to introduce you to “ nanners ” which is a tell tale sign that pollination has taken place. Check out this article about how soon you can tell the sex of your cannabis plant.

Technically, you can crush cannabis seeds into a powdered form and try smoking them. However, does that mean you should? The short answer is no.

Does this scenario sound familiar to you?

What to do with cannabis seeds?

Marijuana seeds have little to no THC and CBD content which are the chemical compounds in marijuana flowers and buds that are responsible for having a mind-altering effect on you and getting you buzzed. Additionally, cannabis seeds create sharp crackling and popping sounds when they are smoked, which contributes to an incredibly uncomfortable smoking session. Plus, smoking cannabis seeds and stems will be harsh on your lungs and irritate the body’s airways, even if you are a chronic smoker.

Just make sure that you have enough information about the seeds you are selling.

So you’re either a serious cannabis cultivator with a side hustle or occasionally grow marijuana in your backyard to get your hands on high-quality and inexpensive weed for a good smoking session.

The Royal Queen Seeds Feminized Starter Kit contains:

After 3–5 days, the seeds will start to open, and you should see tiny white tips appear. Once these roots reach 2–3mm in length, use extreme care to transfer them from the water to pre-prepared soil pots.

Three fundamental principles will trigger that first small taproot to appear: warmth, moisture, and darkness. With the promise of moisture, a single root will take shape before slowly developing into the cannabis plant we know and love. In the right conditions, seeds will begin to develop within 12–36 hours of moisture being introduced to them.

USING STONE WOOL BLOCKS

Start by filling pots with a premium-quality soil that has been soaked in water. Many growers also choose to lace the water with a root stimulator. Make a hole roughly 10–15mm deep. This will be your seed’s new home. Remove the seeds from their packet and place them into the pre-dug holes. Loosely cover the seeds, but be careful not to compress the soil above the seed too much. The root will struggle to penetrate solid soil, slowing plant growth. Lightly spray the top of where you placed the seed so that your growing medium stays moist.

Maintaining the ideal temperature (between 22–25°C/71–77°F) and moisture for germination is tricky. Leaving seeds out in the open environment or on a windowsill is far from ideal; a DIY climate-controlled cupboard would do a much better service. A warming mat is perfect for maintaining a constant temperature, but it doesn’t tackle the issue of moisture.

Often overlooked, it is all too easy to assume that the vegetative and flowering stages of cannabis growth are the most critical parts of the plant’s life cycle. However, with the chance of failure high unless you know what you’re doing, poor planning when it comes to germination can make or break your next grow. Giving your cannabis seeds the best possible start on their journey to bulging buds is a surefire way to encourage a healthy and robust plant.

The soil pots will need small holes (roughly 10–15mm deep) for the newly germinated seeds to be placed into. Once the seeds are secure, you will want to place a fluorescent light 13–15cm (5–6 inches) away to encourage growth. Finally, don’t risk overwatering your seeds at this early stage. Use a plant mister to make sure they stay damp but not soaking wet.

does smoking marijuana seeds lower your sperm count

Steven Gans, MD is board-certified in psychiatry and is an active supervisor, teacher, and mentor at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Despite the relaxation effects that many people associate with marijuana use, research has shown marijuana has negative effects on the male sexual response.

Female Fertility

Obviously, if you are both smoking marijuana, you risk increasing the chances of infertility as a couple.

Furthermore, the effects of marijuana on fertility seem to accumulate over time. This means that although teenage girls who smoke marijuana are more likely to get pregnant, by the time a chronic marijuana smoking woman is in her mid-twenties, she may be more likely to experience a delay in getting pregnant.

Quitting marijuana can be harder than many long-term marijuana users expect, so you and your partner would be wise to quit as soon as possible, while you still have time to get help before getting pregnant. If either or both parents still use marijuana when the baby arrives, you are increasing the risk that your child may use drugs in the future, and parental drug use is implicated in many difficulties for children and families.

Current research suggests that smoking cannabis affects sperm in notable ways. Firstly, it could reduce sperm count and affect morphology.

The authors suggest that the “AEA-binding TRPV1 (transient receptor potential vanilloid type 1) could be involved in the sperm fertilizing ability.” More specifically, they say that “TRPV1 could be involved in the complex mechanisms that make spermatozoa able to fertilize oocytes during the capacitation process in the female genital tract.”

The results showed that the subjects with higher THC levels in their urine had a higher incidence of genetic changes. Although the correlation appears to be clear, we still do not know precisely what these findings mean for men who use cannabis and are thinking about starting a family. Regarding the study results, the senior author, Scott Kollins, Ph.D., a professor in psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Duke, stated:

The Endocannabinoid System, Development, and Fertility

There is also some evidence that there are differences in the endocannabinoid systems found in the sperm of infertile men compared with their fertile peers. The authors of that particular study say that their research “identified unprecedented alterations of the ECS in infertile sperm, that might impact on capacitation and acrosome reaction, and hence fertilization outcomes.”

All the available research suggests that cannabis has an effect on sperm, but what causes these effects? The answer could well lie within the endocannabinoid system.

They also discovered that THC seemed to disrupt a process known as DNA methylation, which is vital for healthy development. This process was altered in thousands of different genes, all of which were involved in two particular cellular pathways. The first pathway was associated with ensuring that organs reach their full size, and the second was linked to growth during development.

The endocannabinoid system is responsible for many of our vital biological functions. It contains receptors known as CB1 receptors, found primarily in the central nervous system and the brain, and CB2 receptors found elsewhere in the body.

And an even earlier study (Kolodny et al, 1974) into testosterone levels in “chronic” cannabis users found that 6 of 17 subjects had oligospermia (low sperm count), and that average testosterone levels in the cannabis-using group were just over half that of the control group. The effect of cannabis on testosterone levels was observed to be dose-dependent.

Although THC and anandamide are both agonists of the CB1-receptors, they greatly differ in structure and therefore have different effects on certain metabolic processes. Anandamide has a much shorter half-life than THC (just a few minutes for anandamide compared to as long as 24 hours for THC). So while anandamide will degrade shortly after it contacts a receptor, THC can remain in nearby adipose tissue for much longer periods, and can continue to stimulate the receptors, ultimately causing overstimulation and potential negative effects.

Sexing Marijuana Plants – How to see if your cannabis plant is male or female

For healthy adult males, it seems that use of THC does indeed cause some negative effects on fertility, which tend to increase with higher doses. However, THC’s endogenous analogue anandamide appears to be critical to the functioning of the male reproductive system.

Clearly, the endocannabinoid system has a role to play in the regulation of processes critical to male reproductive health, such as sperm count, testosterone levels, and levels of other key hormones such as LH.

However, most of these findings are far from conclusive. Either the study included very few participants or confounding factors such as tobacco use aren’t taken into consideration. In fact, more recent research, like this review on infants who were exposed to marijuana in-utero, concludes there aren’t any adverse risks.

In a last attempt to germinate your seeds, creating a small cut in the seed’s shell may help. However, this is no miracle cure, and you’ll need to be careful to avoid damaging the inside of your seed.

If, for example, you live in an area with very warm daytime temperatures and cool nights, try to protect your seeds from these changes and don’t store them outside in a shed or garage.

Humidity is easily one of the biggest threats to your seeds. Here is how different levels of humidity (% relative humidity) affect your cannabis seeds:

KNOWING WHICH SEEDS TO PLANT AND WHICH TO STORE

Ziplock bags, for example, are great because you can remove all the air from them to create an almost vacuum-sealed container for your seeds. Once vacuum-sealed, put your bag inside a dark plastic bag or dark container to protect your seeds from your fridge light.

We’ve all found an odd seed somewhere at the bottom of an old drawer or cupboard. Here are a few tips on how to germinate old cannabis seeds:

If your seeds get exposed to light or rapid changes in temperature, these conditions will trigger them to use up their nutrient stores before they ever see soil, meaning they won’t have the nutrients they need to germinate. High humidity, on the other hand, can trigger fungi to grow on your seeds.

Ideally, you want to store your seeds in a cool, dark, and dry place. Whenever possible, keep your seeds in their original packaging. At Royal Queen Seeds, we’ve specially designed our packaging to protect our seeds until you’re ready to plant them.

Note: seeds that are stored in the freezer should be germinated immediately after you take the seeds out of the freezer. Do not let the seeds thaw first.

When storing cannabis seeds properly, your seeds remain fresh and viable. Curious how to take care over storing cannabis seeds, and how long you can preserve your weed seeds? Read on and learn how to store weed seeds!

Cannabis seeds can withstand very low temperatures, but air humidity and fluctuations in temperature should be avoided at all times. Keep in mind that marijuana seeds are living organisms. When the seed makes contact with water, the nutrients in the seed that trigger the germination process will be released.

Storing cannabis seeds for a long term

The best way to temporarily store weed seeds (several days, weeks or months) is to place the seeds in a dark, lockable (plastic) container in the refrigerator.

Of course, it’s also possible that you have bought several cannabis seeds and that you want to keep a part for, for example, next year. The best way to store cannabis seeds for a long term is to freeze the seeds. Make sure you vacuum pack the seeds, place the seeds in a dark lockable (plastic) container and put them in the freezer. If done right, you can store your seeds for years.

Once you have received your ordered cannabis seeds, most growers start their grow right away. After all, your seeds are fresh, and you want to prevent the cannabis seeds from germinating in an uncontrolled way. However, if you can not or do not want to start with your cultivation immediately, it is important to store the seeds properly.

To prevent unused cannabis seeds from germinating or getting damaged, you have to store weed seeds in a cool, dark and moisture-free place.

If you’re not sure how much water is too much water, keep in mind that you want the growing medium (AKA the soil) to be damp and moist — not soaked and oversaturated.

The seedling stage can be an especially vulnerable time in the growing process. The cannabis seedling is in need of a lot of TLC to grow into a healthy cannabis plant.

Choosing the right pot is an essential part of caring for your growing plant. You need a pot that’s going to give the root system space to grow, but not so much space that the roots won’t be able to absorb all the water in the soil. You should also make sure the pot has drainage holes to get rid of any excess water that could overwhelm the plant.

Know the signs of nutrient deficiencies

But what does that TLC look like? What steps do you need to take to support your cannabis seedlings through the seedling stage and as they grow into mature marijuana plants?

When you’re growing cannabis, you want to keep your plants strong and healthy through every stage of the growing process — and that includes the seedling stage.

Environmental conditions are essential to growing healthy cannabis seedlings, and some of the most important conditions to control are temperature and humidity.

The root system of a seedling isn’t elaborate; the roots are small and don’t need much water to grow. Misting the plants with water once or twice a day should be plenty to give them the hydration they need to grow.

While cannabis seedlings like warm, humid conditions, too much heat can cause a plant’s leaves to grow slower than its stem, resulting in tall and stretchy growth. To promote healthy seedling growth, we recommend keeping the temperatures in your grow room or dome at 19–20°C during the day and roughly 13°C at night.

Fix stretching in cannabis seedlings, and prevent it from happening again.

In the same way taproots dig for water and nutrients, the top part of the plant will stretch vigorously if it’s not receiving enough light. It’s a survival mechanism in which a plant uses up all its stored energy to rise above competing flora. In the case of indoor growing, there is no competition, but the seedling will perceive it this way. For instance, leaving the pot under a windowsill in the shade will likely trigger this behaviour. Things can get even more dramatic under artificial light.

Other Potential Causes of Stretchy Cannabis Seedlings

Just like baby humans, cannabis seedlings are super fragile and need plenty of tender loving care to flourish. Unfortunately, many growers run into the same issue during the early stages of their cannabis plants’ lives; their seedlings grow long, stretchy, and weak stems. This, in turn, can lead to a host of issues that put your crop at risk of delivering subpar results.

Long, stretchy stems are one of the most common problems growers face during the seedling stage. Luckily, there are a few simple ways to prevent and fix stretching in cannabis seedlings.

Thinning is a common agricultural technique that’s often forgotten among cannabis growers. As the name suggests, thinning is all about reducing competition among your plants by “thinning” out the population.

More precisely, cannabis seedlings benefit from nitrate-derived nitrogen. Unlike ammoniacal nitrogen, nitrate-nitrogen is a lot easier for plants to absorb and fuels shorter, bushier vegetative growth. If your seedlings are stretching despite ideal light conditions, we highly recommend checking the ammoniacal nitrogen content in your soil and fertiliser.

First, you need to get a general idea of the final container size which will be based on how big you want your plants to grow. The less often you transplant, the bigger the final size pot you'll need because the roots will tend to grow out and cover the whole container if left too long. You can help avoid problems with roots getting rootbound by using a fabric pot (also known as a "Smart Pot") or an air pot.

Too Much Light = Burned, Crinkled Leaves

If the seedling isn't transferred to a bigger container in time, it can cause symptoms of overwatering, nutrient deficiencies, wilting, and sometimes very strange and unpredictable symptoms.

These small cannabis plants (below) were put in big pots, and were given enough water to support a much larger plant. The plants couldn’t drink all the water that was given to them and as a result, their roots weren’t able to get the oxygen they needed and started "drowning." Once the roots are out of commission, the leaves start drooping.

Planting in too big a container is sometimes called “overpotting.” It’s possible to get around this with special watering techniques (for example by giving plants just a little bit of water until they start “growing into” their containers) but starting plants in small containers and transplanting as needed can be a more straightforward way for some growers. Overpotting plants is also a waste of growing medium and nutrients, especially if the plants never get big enough to fully use their containers.

However, they are a lot more enjoyable when you make a little ‘meal’ out of them, instead of consuming them raw.

The next time you decide to toss away “useless” marijuana seeds from the weed you’re about to use, stop!

A lot of people also like to make a non-psychoactive “ganja tea.” You can do this by roasting the hemp seeds first. Then, put them in boiling water along with some of your favorite spices. You can also increase the “nutritional potency” of the tea by including your cannabis stems and dried leaves in the infusion.

Unlike hemp, cannabis remains federally illegal. Even so, many Americans are finding a way to incorporate marijuana seeds into their diet. They are doing so for the same reasons those colonists did in the 17th century.

Anyway, let’s take a look at the top five reasons why you should eat marijuana seeds.

Instead, they were cultivating hemp for the boundless nutritional components of the seed. They also knew about its use for the construction/textile components of the stalk and stem. During that era, people used hemp fibers to make rope, paper, clothes, etc.

After a strenuous exercise, the body is often over-acidic. The various minerals and vitamin E in cannabis seeds help to bring the body’s pH back into balance, and the essential fats have anti-inflammatory effects and support the regeneration and healing process of small muscle cells.

Cannabis seeds contain special fats that increase brain performance and proteins that stimulate cell activity. Both serve as a good source of energy for the body and reduce the need for other stimulants, such as coffee, sugar, chocolate, energy drinks or other sugary drinks.

The combination of nutrients in cannabis seeds ensures a faster feeling of satiety, increases metabolism, reduces cravings for sweets and increases motivation for training and physical activity. The fats they contain also help burn fat, and the fibre helps to excrete more toxins, making it easier to lose weight.

It improves memory and mood and reduces symptoms of anxiety and depression. Regular consumption of cannabis seeds can also reduce the risk of diseases such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s.

Hemp seeds are the small seeds of the hemp seed plant Cannabis sativa. They have an olive-green, glossy protective cover, a white pulp and are about 2-4mm long and wide.

Cannabis seeds also contain a lot of vitamin E, various minerals and trace elements (such as zinc, iron, magnesium, calcium and phosphorus), digestive fibre, antioxidants, chlorophyll and immune-supporting secondary plant substances.

Cannabis seeds’ special features

It will help the body neutralize free radicals caused by the presence of disease. Albumin will balance cholesterol levels in the correct proportions. It is one of the reasons why cannabis seed foods promote a healthy cardiovascular system.

Besides, its combustion is less contaminating. Its high cellulose content has not only helped the paper industry but the biodiesel industry through a process called pyrolysis.

Recently, the ability to be transformed into biofuel has been discovered, just as its fibers have been processed to make plastic.

Besides, cannabis production and treatment are much more ecological and uses fewer chemicals than cotton and polyester. Industrial hemp fabric could then be perfect for people with sensitive skin.

Cannabis seeds can bring you other benefits than its resistant and flexible fibers. They can also be transformed into fuel.

Everything is good in cannabis! Starting with its fibers, among the most resistant and known so far. The first garments that were found during archaeological research were made from hemp.
